The Adult Choir is open to persons who have completed Confirmation through senior adults. Currently, there is at least a 70-year age span in the group. There is great joy in singing with a diversity of people who come together for a common goal-the praise of God. Anthems and other service music are offered on behalf of the whole congregation, and serve to enhance the Word of God. Choir singers have the opportunity to explore music and texts which cover about five centuries, all of which are a reminder of the continuing inspiration of God through all times and places. (Besides singing, they also laugh a lot and party once in a while.) You may choose to sing at either the 8:30 or 11:00 service or both. The choir practices during the program year every Wednesday evening
from 7:00 to 8:30. Are you able to sing with the Choir on
most of the Sundays from September June? Or, do you really want
to sing with the group but your schedule doesnt permit that kind
of time commitment? Check with director Elsie Naylor for options. Anyone interested in joining the choir or wanting more information should contact the director, Elsie Naylor, at elsie.naylor@urbucc.org or call the church office at 276-0625. |

This group is for Senior High students and Adults. The players are assigned parts in the bell music according to their individual music reading level and comfort level (lighter vs. heavier bells). Besides performing in church on a monthly basis, this group provides a weekly outlet for social time and musical camaraderie. *Attendance is important and ringers will need to notify the director if an absence is to occur. The group practices at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays for 45 minutes. |

The Raggedy Band (TRB) provides instrumental music about once a month at both services. Our number waxes and wanes depending on the schedules and availability of the musicians, but the current instrumental roster is: flute, mandolin, guitar, bass guitar and Irish flute. TRB was born out of the realization that the congregation was bursting with musical talent in various forms. We are always open to new members, and would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about what we do and where your talents could fit in. We usually practice at the church on Thursday evenings at 7:15. Contact Lee Hood for more information: lee@ucciaconf.org.

The Des Moines Diversity Chorus is a one-of-a-kind choral group in our community, focusing especially on encouraging respect and appreciation for people through music. The Chorus was organized in June 1997, and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, receiving support and funding from a variety of individuals and other sources, including Urbandale UCC and the Iowa Conference United Church of Christ. The Chorus is committed to exploring and embracing the many facets of the diverse community in which we live. The music reflects the traditions of several ethnic and cultural groups, and the concerts routinely present music in two or three languages in addition to English. By sharing its wide variety of music and inviting other groups and individuals to be a part of its concerts, the Chorus gives visibility and voice to performers of varied national, ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds who otherwise might not be heard. Appearances for the Des Moines Diversity Chorus in 2000 included January Thaw classes and Festival of Talents, both sponsored by the Des Moines Area Religious Council; Singing Together SundayFirst Unitarian Church; Interfaith Holocaust Memorial Service; NCCJ (National Conference on Community and Justice) walk-a-thon; and fall and late winter concerts in collaboration with the Urbandale Middle School music department and K-12 English as a Second Language (ESL) program. The Chorus encourages others to join them. If you are interested in learning more about the Chorus or are interested in singing, contact director Elsie Naylor at elsie.naylor@urbucc.org or call the church office at 276-0625. |

The UUCC Narthex Gallery features visual artwork by members and friends of the congregation. The Gallery occasionally has special feature exhibits such as favorite religious art loaned by members of the congregation and art created in church school classes. The space is available for other church projects. The following is an alphabetical list of Narthex Gallery artists who have shown their artwork since the Gallery began in 1997:
