for children and youth

Christian Education at Urbandale United Church of Christ is a spirit-filled adventure for all ages from 3 years to adult. Sunday School is held each Sunday morning from 9:45-10:30 a.m.

God is still speaking in Sunday School! This year, grades 5 and under will be following the Gather ’Round curriculum (similar to last year’s Bible Quest in many ways). Each week, lessons focus on key stories of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. Sixth through eighth graders and ninth-twelfth graders will continue to be guided by their teachers through units based on the big themes of Christian church life. Pastor Emily consults with the teachers to develop lessons using Bible study, film, drama, art, discussion, and a variety of curriculum resources to explore ideas like worship, community, and stewardship. Volunteers are always welcome to help with projects in Sunday School classrooms!

Contact Amy Murray to learn about these opportunities.

Other educational events for children and youth occur during the week, such as Wednesday Night Alive.

for adults

Sunday mornings, 9:45-10:30 a.m., Sanctuary

April 6, 13, 20: Courageous and Christian: Finding our Wisdom, with Pastor Emily.
Do you ever feel that your religious beliefs place you in the minority, even among other Christians? Do you ever wonder how to speak your truth when it goes against the grain of the dominant culture? Can you be angry and non-violent at the same time? We will explore these questions with Bible study, film clips, and discussion. The film featured will be “The Education of Shelby Knox,” a 2005 documentary about a high school student in Lubbock, Texas who challenged her school district to provide comprehensive sexual education and safe space for a gay-straight alliance to meet.

Also offered throughout the year are other evening educational opportunities, retreats, and groups like the Book Group.
